Code of Conduct During this spring and summer season, NYW has received several reports of inappropriate conduct on the part of coaches and spectators. These reports relate primarily to verbal as well as physical abuse of referees, players, coaches and spectators, but there are also a few instances of "assault." While we have policies for dealing with referee and player abuse and assault, there are no such statewide guide lines for dealing with the others. We generally rely on the various leagues to control their spectators but perhaps the time has come for NYW to do something more in this area.
In the past, we've made various educational tools available to our clubs - including the video "Attitudes are Contagious." We have now just purchased several copies of the DVD "Positive Parenting for Youth Soccer." Clubs will be given free copies of this DVD at their league meetings or can obtain one from your District Commissioner or the State Office. Also check the US Youth Soccer Online Tool for Parents posted on the NY West website. If you have any thoughts or comments on this topic, please contact the State Office.
This fall, NYW will make a concerted effort of "Kicking into Gear" with its educational program, so look for more news and information about this in the near future.
