NYSW ODP Cycle Defined
The NYSWYSA ODP cycle is basically made up of two segments – the indoor phase and the outdoor phase. The indoor portion of the program consists of indoor training sessions for the players who are in the Indoor Pool. The indoor training sessions run from mid-December through the end of March. The Indoor Pool is made up of players who are eligible NYW State Team Players from the previous season (see NYW ODP Tryouts for eligibility details) and those players selected through the respective age group ODP tryouts in the fall. At the conclusion of the indoor phase and after careful evaluation, players are then selected to advance into the Outdoor Pool and the outdoor phase of the program.
The players selected to the Outdoor Pool then attend outdoor training sessions in late April and May. The outdoor phase begins in late April at the Northeast ODP Sub-Regional ID Event outside of Albany, NY. At this event, NYW ODP teams compete against neighboring ODP programs. The outdoor phase continues into May with weekly (Wed. evening) training sessions at sites along the NYS Thruway. Outdoor Pool players are competing for a roster spot on the NYW ODP State Team that will play in the East Region ODP Tournament in early June. ODP Tournament Team rosters are selected/announced at the end of the outdoor training phase.
ODP is a pay as you progress program. In the fall when players are selected to the Indoor Pool, they are required to pay an associated indoor training fee (*$420) for that phase of the program. In the spring, for those players selected to continue on to the Outdoor Pool, there is an associated outdoor training fee (*$320) for that phase of the program. In June, for those players selected to the ODP Tournament Team, there is an associated ODP Tournament fee (*$135). Payment deadlines are established for each step in the process and all fees are paid via an on-line payment process.
In July, NYW State Team players are identified/selected by the East Region ODP Coaching Staff to attend the East Region ODP Summer ID Invitational Camp (*TBD). The camp is owned and operated by US Youth Soccer East Region ODP. The camp provides exposure to college coaches and an opportunity to be selected to the East Region ODP player pool/team. Players selected to their respective East Region player pool/team are then eligible for regional, national and international ODP events/competitions.
The timeline for this year’s ODP cycle can be found on the 2024/25 ODP Events Calendar and Training Schedules.
